Biography: Bacon’s raw, unsettling figurative works often depicted his male lovers and the brutality of desire. His studio was a chaotic shrine to paint and photographs of wrestling men, and his canvices screamed with the tension
between intimacy and violence. He was one of the first major painters to make queer male desire a central subject of fine art.
