It’s her dream.
Angelic Dreamz is named for a mother – Angelica – a seamstress and fashion designer whose fabrics filled a childhood, whose eye for beauty never faded, and whose dream became a store, then a website, then everything you see here. It’s Angelica’s dream. Angelic Dreamz.
Our story begins in the buying offices of a great department store, in bedding – where a young assistant buyer turned the sleepy decorative-pillow department into the most profitable in the store by doing something simple: knowing every salesperson by name and treating merchandising like it mattered. Luxury linens and designer collections followed – along with a growing conviction that we could build something better ourselves.
So we did. Our own company grew to stores in Florida, a flagship in Chicago, and a seat on NASDAQ. Then life rewrote the script: a major medical episode, a new appreciation for the things that matter – and, of all things, a Barbie doll delivered as a joke that turned out to be a muse. We were hooked. When the time came to begin again, the doll collection itself became the seed money for a little shop in North Miami, opened in 2004 with one wish: something beautiful to do every day. The website we built by hand in the internet’s early days grew right along with the store – from nothing to levels we never imagined.
Then Miami reminded us that one hurricane too many is, in fact, one hurricane too many. So we did our best Beverly Hillbillies and high-tailed it out of Florida, landing in a small town in the Finger Lakes of New York – where we made our home and our store in the town’s original 1873 firehouse, a brick beauty with twenty-two-foot ceilings and a commute of one flight of stairs.
In 2010, a new adventure: JAMIEshow, founded as a separate company, became the next great chapter of our lives. In 2012 we closed the shop and the firehouse chapter and moved home to Chicago to concentrate on it – and for sixteen years our dolls found collectors around the world.
When the world stood still in 2020 and our factory in China closed for a year, we did what survivors do: we kept going. It was during that quiet year that the artist among us went back to the camera and the canvas – showing work in exhibitions and galleries, and building a photography home of his own. When the factory reopened and the dolls returned, the art went patiently back on hold. Later, when illness dulled the joy and creative control slipped away, it was time to close that chapter with gratitude – for the art, the partnerships, and the collectors who made it all worthwhile.
Which brings us here. Angelic Dreamz today is the full expression of everything gathered along the way: decades of retail instinct, a trend-spotter’s eye, a photographer’s light, and a graphic designer’s hand – all devoted to what we love most. Creating. Artwork that speaks to art, architecture, history, and travel, curated into greeting cards, totes, prints, and beautiful things for your home. You can see the photography that started this latest chapter at www.GeorgeGPhoto.net.
There’s a neon sign in the office that has said it for years: LOVE WHAT YOU DO. We believe you can only truly succeed when what you do comes straight from the heart. We’re doing that now.
This is not mass production. This is a point of view – and a mother’s dream, still coming true.
One more thing we’ve never had to hide: Angelic Dreamz is an LGBTQ+ owned and operated company. Beauty has never cared for labels, and neither do we. Everyone is welcome in the dream.
Thank you for being here. The best chapters are still being written.
Stay dreamy.
