Biography: Solomon was a rising star of the Pre-Raphaelite movement until his arrest for homosexual activity in
Victorian London destroyed his career and his health. His paintings of androgynous angels, mythological lovers, and mystical rituals were too beautiful for a society that could not accept who he was. He died in poverty and obscurity, but his work has been rediscovered as a cornerstone of Victorian queer visual culture.
