Somewhere beyond the dunes there is a party, and they are dressed for it just in case. They have been ready since Tuesday.
Two ostriches stand at the edge of the desert in their very best thinking: the grass-topped fez and the yellow feather crown, sunglasses on against the glare of their own futures, balloon earrings swinging with each judgmental glance. The dunes roll gold. The sky is the bluest blue. If the party does not come to them, they will simply stand here being fabulous until it does.
Bath time with the best-dressed birds in the desert. The bubbles are their mirror ball.
Beauty is everywhere. Even in the heat.
