Some towers keep their secrets in stone. This one wears its fortune on the outside.
The green bottle of a building with the gold-leaf neck: pylons of gold rising the full height of the dark green shaft, leaf motifs nodding to the ancient forests that became its treasure, and at the top the famous crown, lit like a celebration that started in 1929 and never got the memo to stop. Below, Michigan Avenue glows – the starburst lamps, the little period cars, the whole avenue out strolling in its best. The moon keeps the tower company, as it has every night since.
A curtain with the best address in the bathroom. The crown never dims; neither does bath time.
