Biography: Damer was one of the most celebrated female sculptors of the 18th century. Her romantic relationships
with women were widely known in London high society, and she lived openly with her partner Mary Berry for decades
after the death of her husband. Horace Walpole called her ‘the wife of the Newton of sculpture,’ and her neoclassical
works in marble and terracotta graced the collections of the British elite.
