Biography: Kelly was an openly gay man whose lifelong partner was fellow artist Robert Indiana. His work stripped
painting down to pure shape and color, creating monumental panels that transformed museum walls into experiences of light and form. His vision of abstraction was deeply influenced by the architecture and landscape of France, where he lived and worked for years.
