No. 08 – THE MOTHER OF MODERN ELEGANCE
The Couturier Who Dressed Generations
In 1907, Jeanne Lanvin designed a matching mother-and-daughter wardrobe so exquisite that the elite of Paris begged her to dress them too. By the 1920s, her house had become an Art Deco palace of refinement—famous for intricate embroidery, delicate beading in the style of 18th- century rocaille, and fragrances that bottled nostalgia. Unlike the rebellious flappers, Lanvin celebrated eternal femininity: gowns in dusty blue, blush pink, and pearl gray that made women feel like porcelain dolls in a modern world. Her signature Arpège perfume was composed as a musical chord, dedicated to her daughter Marguerite. This Art Deco homage surrounds her with the deep blue of her iconic packaging, geometric peacock motifs, mother-and-daughter vignettes, and the rosettes and floral arabesques that defined her most lavish haute couture presentations. The year reads 1925—when elegance became hereditary.
