A peacock on his rock among peonies, east meets Amsterdam, painted entirely in cobalt.
When Delft potters saw Chinese porcelain for the first time, they did what all great artists do: they fell in love and started imitating immediately. The Chinoiserie Peacock is that love story three centuries on, a magnificent bird perched on his scholar’s rock among peonies and clouds, the East and Amsterdam agreeing beautifully on one plate.
Chinoiserie blue is the peacock of decors, which this plate fully understands. It belongs among potted palms, pagoda mirrors, and anything bamboo, or simply on a white wall where its cobalt can do all the talking. Grandmillennials and their grandmothers will agree on this one, which may be a first.
Generous 10-inch fine ceramic with a high-gloss glaze. For collectors of blue and white and admirers of splendid birds.
Part of the The Delft Blue Collection of delft blue decorative plates.
Beauty is everywhere.
